Sri Lanka To Amend Child Labour Laws

The employment of children below the age of 18 as domestic aides will be made illegal in Sri Lanka, according to the Department of Labour, via an amendment to the Employment of Women, Young Persons and Children Act.

The move is a direct reaction to the death and alleged sexual abuse, mistreatment of a 16-year-old girl who was employed as a domestic worker at the residence of parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen.
