For the former airline pilot behind Chaiwala Colombo, a long–held dream met an unlikely catalyst in the form of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in what has quickly become a Marine Drive staple.
Starting out serving cups of steaming, aromatic chai from a yellow mini-truck, Chaiwala brought together experiences from years of travel and months of trial and error in a chai recipe specifically tailored to Sri Lankan taste buds. Adapting to COVID restrictions and operating in the gaps between lockdowns, the small business is an in-demand newcomer to the Colombo food truck scene.
