The Demolition Of The 150-Year-Old De Soysa Building Is Underway

The 150-year-old #DeSoysaBuilding in #SlaveIsland, a historic structure, was in the process of being demolished by the Urban Development Authority (UDA) as of 22 August.

Despite protests by tenants, conservationists, the Slave Island community & the wider public, the demolition of the building – initially planned in 2018 – was set in stone when part of it collapsed in June this year.

Rebuilding on the land following the demolition will be overseen by the Tata Housing Development Company, the lead investor in the UDA’s Slave Island Redevelopment Project.
