Foodscapes: Specialty Coffee

The pilot episode of the Food Industry Series, ‘Foodscapes’, was an in-depth dive into the Sri Lankan coffee industry, focusing on specialty coffee and sustainability within the industry. Our team travelled extensively and, from farms to cafes, we uncovered the journey every bean makes to create the perfect steaming up of brew.
The mini-documentary, a production that took over many months, was screened at the Sri Lanka Coffee Festival on 25 January 2022 – the first of its kind to be hosted in Sri Lanka, in celebration of the country’s growing specialty coffee sector.
The event was organised by MDF Global, the partners for the documentary and the Australian Aid, in partnership with the Lanka Coffee Association, Verse, Cafe Kumbuk, Kopi Kade, Kiku, J M Robertson & Co, and Seed Cafe.
Roar Media’s social media platforms saw an influx of positive feedback on the mini-documentary, successfully spreading awareness on specialty coffee and encouraging viewers to support this budding industry in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Coffee Festival was a roaring success, becoming an annual event that brings together various stakeholders in a unique celebration of home-grown specialty coffee with a focus on industry development.
