When it comes to marketing, especially in the digital arena, Umair Wolid has plenty of experience. He is a Chartered Marketer who specialises in digital marketing, digital advertising, and social media, mainly for online news content and publishing. He’s worked at Wijeya Newspapers since 2008 and is the current Head of Marketing of Content and Digital Media. Umair has run the digital revenue side of the business since he joined, and has been involved in all of the company’s websites (Dailymirror.lk, Ft.lk, Hitad.lk, Lankadeepa.lk, Tamilmirror.lk), their news apps (on Android and iOS) as well as their social media presences on Facebook and Twitter. He has also developed the company’s digital media strategy overall, as well as specifically for each business unit. Currently, Wijeya Newspapers generates 60% of Direct Digital Ad placement market share in Sri Lanka. Not sticking to social media alone, Umair also helped introduce WhatsApp news alert services in Sri Lanka.
Umair also handles brands, working with over 500 brands in the last 8 years and handling promotions, contracts, digital advertising media plans, Google ads and Facebook ads. He also specialised in social media strategies for these brands.
