Sri Lanka’s strict abortion laws have not prevented them from happening illegally, at an alarming rate. Due to a large number of complications from unsafe abortions, post-abortion care is legal in Sri Lanka. In 2015, the Ministry of Health amended this law stating that doctors are not required to report cases in which patients seek out post-abortion care services. What does this mean for women’s health in Sri Lanka, and is the law enough to prevent women suffering the aftermath of unsafe abortion practices?
