Exploring The Mental Health Landscape In Sri Lanka: Breaking Stigma and Strengthening Agency

Brought to you by

Stigma and the lack of understanding are the main obstacles those with mental health conditions face on a daily basis. Even after recovery, these societal problems do not tend to fade away easily.

In 2022, The Asia Foundation with the support of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), provided livelihood assistance to 20 women-headed families receiving support from the institution. The project builds upon over two decades of work conducted by the Foundation with the aim of empowering state cadres, improving service provision, raising awareness, and reducing stigma surrounding mental health in Sri Lanka.

Rasindi, Deepika and Maheswari are three of those 20 beneficiaries of the livelihood assistance programme, who received support to expand their entrepreneurial efforts.
